This is Part 3 of a 4-part series on severe phonological disorders. After selecting multiple target phonemes based on complexity theory principles, incorporate the targets into therapy using maximal contrast pairs and evidence-based selection of practice words. This course focuses on therapy activities that support new sound acquisition in meaningful contexts and promote target phoneme use across levels of difficulty in each session. This course reviews the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for SLPs, with a focus on counseling and behavioral change for adults with aphasia or cognitive deficits following acquired brain injury. Literature updates and case examples from the presenter's clinical practice are included.

This is Part 2 of a four-part series on severe phonological disorders. Careful assessment and analysis of a child’s phonologic knowledge has the potential to maximize speech sound progress in the shortest amount of time. This course will describe an assessment routine that can provide the information needed for target sound selection and create the foundation for setting measurable, yet flexible, goals that reflect improvement in speech intelligibility.

This is Part 1 of a four-part series on severe phonological disorders. Research-based selection of speech sound targets for treatment has the potential to significantly accelerate children’s therapy progress. This course examines research supporting use of a non-traditional approach to selecting speech sound targets in order to facilitate rapid change in overall intelligibility. It then discusses how to apply that research to treatment decisions in daily clinical practice. (Part 2: Course 8928, Part 3: Course 8938, Part 4: Course 8946)

This course will examine the similarities and differences between hearing loss (HL) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) so that SLPs can assist in differential diagnosis for children 0-3 years old. Evaluation tools, speech/language characteristics of the degrees of hearing loss, listening skill progression, and typical pragmatic skill development of children with hearing loss will also be discussed.

This course will review case studies of individuals who use augmentative/alternative communication (AAC). Participants will learn how to apply knowledge of communication independence levels, a continuum of goals, and evidence-based intervention strategies in order to determine appropriate plans for treatment.

There is increasing awareness that autism spectrum conditions occur in females at a rate previously unrecognized. This course will discuss gender differences and the rationale for identifying these females so they receive appropriate support. This course is presented in cooperation with the American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders (ABCLLD).

While clinical skills are important, strong therapeutic presence can bring clinical practice to another level. This course will introduce the five components of therapeutic presence, and describe how SLPs can utilize mindfulness practices to enhance clinical skills and maximize their impact with pediatric or adult clients.

This is Part 5 of the five-part series, Five Fresh Perspectives on Applying LPAA Principles to Treatment for Neurogenic Communication Disorders. This course will provide an overview of the role of the environment as it relates to communication and participation among individuals with aphasia. The World Health Organization – International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (WHO-ICF) framework and the Life Participant Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) framework will be utilized to discuss barriers and facilitators to participatory environments, and characteristics of environments that foster authentic participation and genuine communication opportunities.

This is Part 4 of the five-part series, Five Fresh Perspectives on Applying LPAA Principles to Treatment for Neurogenic Communication Disorders. This webinar will outline specific application of the life participation approach (LPAA) to people with dementia. Cases across the healthcare continuum will be discussed.
