CEU Courses for SLPs

This course will address the challenges and opportunities for speech-language pathologists who evaluate cognitive-communication disorders in children and adolescents with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Specific, evidence-based strategies for nonstandard assessment will be discussed.

This course will describe the Triple Aim, an initiative by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, which focuses on improving population health, improving patient experience and care, and lowering costs. This is part of the evolving healthcare landscape which focuses on value vs. volume. We will also discuss how SLPs can advocate for their important role in this value-based world.

This is Part 1 of a two-part series. This course will review specific aspects of ASHA's Code of Ethics that are related to dysphagia. It will also discuss how to complete a thorough dysphagia evaluation, including chart review, clinical evaluation, justification of therapy services and documentation.

Families of children with hearing loss present with unique needs and challenges. Families’ issues commonly center around accepting hearing loss as well as planning management. Children need support regarding social, emotional and academic development. Hearing loss may impact speech, language, listening, reading, and learning – skills that are critical during childhood years and beyond. The impact of hearing loss on children and families is individual but there are many common challenges even for those with the most access to resources and support.This course will present information and resources for social workers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, school personnel, therapists and other professionals to support them in their work with families of children with hearing loss.

SLPs should assess a variety of skills needed for effective supervision, including: building relationships, communicating, goal-setting, assessing performance, providing feedback and guiding changes in behavior, and managing conflict. In this course, strategies to improve supervisory skills in each area are shared, and web-based tools to increase efficiency are highlighted.

This is Part 2 of a two-part series. ​ This course will focus on​ assessment and intervention for students with dyslexia. Assessment techniques and tools, including how to use assessment data to determine strengths and areas of need in children with dyslexia, will be discussed. The course will also address evidence-based intervention techniques and service delivery options to effectively manage dyslexia in the school and outpatient settings.

This is Part 1 of a two-part series. This course will focus on identifying the core components of dyslexia. Participants will engage in activities that simulate what a student with dyslexia might experience in the classroom. Discussion will focus on common myths, early identification and risk factors, development of reading skills, ​and an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the SLP.

This course will describe the function of skin, as well as types of and reasons for skin breakdown after total laryngectomy surgery. Participants will learn about practical solutions for preventing and treating irritation from peristomal baseplates, in order to facilitate patients’ ability to wear a Heat Moisture Exchanger for pulmonary rehabilitation. This course is presented jointly with Atos Medical.

One of the most powerful tools for providing effective clinical education and mentoring comes in the form of feedback provided to the supervisee or mentee. This course will teach professionals juggling service delivery and supervisory roles about these feedback strategies and will discuss how to integrate them into a wide range of responsibilities they encounter.

The clinical swallow evaluation, or bedside swallow evaluation, is sometimes a maligned component of dysphagia assessment because of its inability to definitively assess for aspiration. This course will provide participants with an understanding of the applications of clinical assessment, appropriate components for inclusion, and direction for forming conclusions and making recommendations based on clinical observations.
