This course will discuss the importance of social skill instruction and leisure skill building for students with autism and other complex communication disorders. The focus will be on individuals in 6th grade to adulthood.

Megan Malone and Jenny Loehr review assessment and treatment of dementia, beginning with an overview of different types of dementia and concluding with goal development and treatment. This is an audio-only podcast with references and further resources included as handouts.

This course will discuss anatomical changes that affect the respiratory system after total laryngectomy. An overview of pulmonary sequelae that result from changes in tracheal climate and conditioning, as well as solutions to improve pulmonary health, will be provided. It will also review available heat moisture exchange (HME) devices and the supporting clinical evidence. This course is presented jointly with Atos Medical.

This course provides the practicing speech-language pathologist with information on special considerations in the treatment of children with voice disorders. The various causes of voice disorders are discussed as well as the treatment of specific types of disorders.

This course will provide a "back to basics" review of the role of the speech pathologist in stroke care. This will include diagnosis, evaluation, and functional treatment recommendations.

This course will discuss current evidence-based practice in the context of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning (ICF) framework. Additionally, this course will describe the components of narrative-based practice and present real-world accounts of ways SLPs can utilize narrative-based practice to provide holistic, client-centered care within the medical setting.

This is Part 5 of the five-part series, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): The Effects of Childhood Trauma on Communication. This course will provide information on current national practice on measuring ACEs. A framework for using national data to inform community-level change will be presented. This course is presented in partnership with the American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders (ABCLLD).

This is Part 4 of the five-part series, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE): The Effects of Childhood Trauma on Communication. This course will focus on the effects of exposure to trauma, including abuse and neglect, on language development. The impact on early brain development will be discussed, as well as the importance of early intervention to prevent increasing difficulties over time.

This course will describe (1) the effects of adverse childhood experiences on children’s language and social-emotional development, (2) caregiver-child interventions to promote attunement and affect management, and (3) child interventions to promote language for personal narratives and self-regulation. This course is presented in partnership with the American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders (ABCLLD).

This is Part 2 of the five-part series, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE): The Effects of Childhood Trauma on Communication. This course will focus on how children of forced migrant families are often traumatized during the migration process and while settling into a new cultural and linguistic environment. Various scenarios and a conceptual framework for how speech-language pathologists can intervene with these children will be discussed. This course is presented in partnership with the American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders (ABCLLD).
